A French violin bow by Marie Louis Piernot, made in Paris, France, c.1915. Round stick of orange tinted pernambuco, mounted in silver and ebony. This bow is a very typical example of the maker’s work, and displays all the hallmarks of Piernot. Made whilst working for the firm of Léon Bernardel in Paris. In good condition today. With certificate from J.F.Raffin.
History & Provenance
Marie Louis Pierrot apprenticed in the workshop of Charles Nicolas Bazin, remaining there from 1892 to 1900. He went on to work for Joseph Arthur Vigneron, then in 1906 after Vigneron’s death, he joined Leon Bernardel’s workshop in Paris. He left in 1923 to set up his own workshop, 13 rue de la Liberté, at Paris. In 1930, he moved his workshop to Parmain (Seine et Oise). After world war II, he moved back to Paris at Avenue Ledru-Rollin.
